Does your industrial waterjet cutter produce a taper?

Taper is one of the major concerns about the waterjet cutting process. As you pass the water stream through the chosen material, you can find some signs of erosion. It will result in inconsistency. Tapers prevent the straight edge to the piece you have cut. Thus, there is less chance of maintaining precision. But, you can solve this problem by selecting a tilting jet head.

How can you compare industrial water jet cutters to laser cutters?

  • Industrial water jet cutters do not need heat, and thus, you can cut any heat-sensitive materials using waterjet technology. On the contrary, laser cutters can cause thermal distortion problems to your materials.

How is your industrial waterjet cutter a better choice compared to the EDM?

Industrial waterjet cutters work faster when compared to EDM systems. Still, they maintain the accuracy level of up to +/- .0015″.  Moreover, EDM is intended to be used for conductive materials. However, water jet cutting tools cut any material, including glass, stone, and wood. Like laser cutters, EDM needs a consistent surface for the successful cutting process. But, water jet systems work properly on uneven materials. They turn out consistent power.

You need to pierce a hole for using your EDM. In the case of waterjets, the system is capable of making the hole on its own. Thus, you will save time and setup costs.

Another difference between waterjets and EDM is about worktables. Our worktable for industrial waterjet cutting is larger than standard EDM tables.

  • You can use the waterjet cutting system for machining delicate and heat-sensitive materials.

  • You can find nozzles made of composite tungsten carbide and sintered boride.
  • The taper produced by the water jet cutting process is less than 1 degree. You can reduce it by tilting the jet and slowing down the cutting speed.

Can your industrial waterjet cutter cut any material?

As it is easy to modify the nature and type of your cutting stream, you may use the water jet in any industry. You can cut water jet for cutting through any materials. However, when your materials have unique properties, they need special attention.

Most commonly, water jets are capable of cutting rubber, plastics, foam, composites, leather, glass, tile, paper, and several other materials. You may also cut ceramics using our industrial water jet cutters. However, materials have to be softer than chosen abrasives. The hardness level of abrasives on the Mohs scale ranges between 7.5 and 8.5.

You cannot cut diamonds and tempered glass with water jet cutters. You can cut up to 6 inches of thickness in the case of metals. However, for other materials, the thickness level can be up to 18 inches.

In the conventional cutting methods, there is a high chance of distortion of materials you have cut. As these cutting processes have thermal influences, you may face the problem. On the contrary, waterjet cutters do not cause distortion. As a result, you will save production time, as there is no need to rework your workpieces.

The cold-cutting process is the classic choice for manufacturers dealing with different types of materials. This is because both soft and hard materials have no risk of burrs and deformation.

What is the average width of the kerf produced by the waterjet cutting process?

In most cases, the kerf is almost 15% wider compared to the focusing tube’s diameter. Thus, when the diameter of the tube is about 0.8 mm, the width of the kerf is almost 1.0 mm. The increasing diameter of the tube will make the kerf wider.

The pH value of the water is about 7.0 to 8..5. Other important things that you must check out-

  • Electric conductivity level- +25°C 450 µS/cm
  • Infeed temperature- 10 to 25 degree Centigrade
  • Dissolved chlorine level- 1 mg/l

  • Feed water pressure ranging from 0.2 to 2.5 MPa

When your water quality has deviated from these stated values, the sealing agent of the nozzles and pump will not last long. That is why you must analyze the water before using it for industrial waterjet cutting.

Is it easy to program the industrial waterjet cutters?

You have to use standard CNC equipment to make the waterjet cutting process easier to program. In fact, other cutting processes are more complicated than waterjet cutting technologies. Based on the materials, you have to adjust the cutting speed.
